SCEA - Carving a well qualified J2EE Architect

Sun Microsystems offers many certifications starting from programmer level to architect level. SCEA (Sun Certified Enterprise Architect) certification is designed for enterprise architects responsible for building high scale enterprise applications or who wish to be prospective architects.

The certification exam tests candidate’s architectural knowledge in and out. A Software Architect is the technical boss of software systems and he should act like a software doctor to resolve the issues. A basic difference between a developer and an architect is the way they design the application. Developer may not think about the scalability, maintainability, performance, etc for long run. But architect always foresees the application’s future expectations about performance, scalability, etc.

What are the qualifications required to become a J2EE Architect?

I would say he/she should be a Sun Certified J2EE Architect. Because it comprises of all the necessary qualification required for a Technical Architect required for J2EE assignment. I love the way the SCEA Part 2 and Part 3 designed.

SCEA Part 2

It is a very challenging experience to get to know about J2EE Architecture best practices. Once you have completed your assignment, you need to upload your assignment into Sun and it will be manually evaluated by technical authors.

SCEA Part 3

This is another stimulating test to verify your architectural knowledge about design decisions. Architecture can be implemented in many ways with different design decisions. After signing a contact with Toll Brothers to build a home on a lot in a new community, the plans came back from the their architects and they determined that they can not build the house the same size we agreed to on the lot we agreed on. Can I void this contract? I would not have bought this house if I was limited to the size that they say it has to now be. This seems like a bait and switch.
Response to last reply…. No I am not looking for a way out. Actually we became very enthused about our new house. When we signed the contract we signed it because we were able to make changes to the model based on the same changes they had made on a model they had used in Texas. Now we are faced with having to go back to the dimesions of the model which I would not have bought as the size of several bedrooms were just too small. The worst part of it is that the living room was to have been bumped out 4 feet and know has to be reduced, which makes one set of the bay windows in the living room look right into the screened lanai area. So as much as you might think I just wanted out, that is just not the case.

Peter is a Java and Ajax developer active in the Dojo Ajax community. His controversial Thin Server Architecture is not a new idea, but hopes to save time and complexity from todays fast-paced web application development schedules.
